  • First off you need to move out, if you can't comprise with your father. Start by keeping your entire paycheck, you are an adult now. Another option is pay him fair market prices for rent and food, along with doing some chore for rent or food that would be below fair market prices. If this can't be reached as a agreement, then it is time to leave. Two full time jobs, why would he want you to do this?
  • I agree with delta You are 19 and legally he is not entitled to one cent of your earnings...keep it all and leave. Stay with some friends for a while until you get all your ducks in a row and don't give him a penny.
  • Hmmm... Housewife and mother (of siblings? your own child? How many besides your father?) at 19? And why do you have to give half your paycheck to him? (If it's for rent for your living at home, that's one thing... but if it's simply because he demands it... After all, you are being the housekeeper, too.) Would it be feasible to request from the court, emancipation for yourself, and custody of your siblings? I mean, if you're already being their mother... If you had all of your paycheck would you be able to make it on your own? What work does your father do? There are a number of factory jobs all over the US that pay decent wages, and don't require diplomas or degrees. If he's living off YOU, then...
  • pack you bags and DON'T give him your pay check ... whats he going to do ...throw you out?, if he tries to take your pay check thats called stealing and I'm sure the cops will come and pay him a visit ...I am serious if its as bad as you say it is then grow some balls and kick him in his
  • Reclaim your full paycheck, move out and hopefully that will cover full rent.
  • If I thought it would matter, I'd tell you to get a quote from a maid service showing him how much you're already saving him on housecleaning. Trust me, you'd be keeping your paycheck! But seriously, he's obviously not being reasonable or respectful of your household contributions, so I agree that you should find a friend to put you up for a while (if necessary) then tell him you're not getting a 2nd job or giving up half your paycheck anymore. You earned it. He is free to get a second job if he likes. Even if it's a low paying job, he needs to earn his own living.
  • can i ask why he gets half your paycheck?
  • If you're almost 19 that makes you at least 18 years old and a legal adult...take your whole paycheck and move out. Go half with a friend as a roommate if you cant afford full rent...I imagine you're not the only one who wants some freedom.
  • You do have another option. Join the Air Force or Navy. You won't see combat time depending on what skill they fit you into. You can get a degree while serving, have healthcare, housing/dorm and be with people your own age. (and maybe find a husband from all the guys you'll be able to pick from--if you want one) It's usually a 4 year commitment and think how strong you will be by 23. Your dad won't be able to touch you, won't get your money and you will have support in all areas you may need it. Sure it's scary, but I haven't met anyone who regretted joining. But I've met plenty of people who regretted getting OUT after only 10 years. And then theres the people who do nothing and end up in the same sh*t, different day for YEARS - never progressing. I know many don't like the military option,(& will probably get DR for mentioning it) but in this ecomony, and the fact you are serving your country still makes it an attractive option. Not everyone goes to war. But if you join the Army- the chance is higher. (or medical/security)
