What is the difference between a software application program and a programming language?

A software application is written in a programming language. Think of a language as the tool used to create, and the application as the result of your creation.

like; use many ingredients to prepare food, and food is eaten and enjoyed by whoever eats it. ingredients => programming language food => application program use scripts, actors, and many more to preapre a movie and movie is enjoyed by whoever uses it. scripts, actors etc.. alltogether => programing language final outcome movie => application program.. let me give you the last example... you must be pressing some buttons and input temprature value to AC, input value to microwave, input timer value to washing machine.. what are you doing.. you are writing value and program it. its called you used some kinf of language to instruct the machine to do something.. now machine exactly does as you said, it wased clothes within given time, AC is cooling you with that temprature outcome is application program. that ultimately u enjoy just using it... so...bottom line is : without programming language there is no application program. because it is used to make useful application program such as microsoft windows, paint etc.. all are made in some or the other languages.
