Help answer this question below.
About two years ago, my parents remodelled their kitchen, as well as the two dining rooms attached to it. Well, the one dining room was part of the kitchen, no walls between them. The other one was beside with a large walkway. We did most the renovations ourselves. It was a full remodel too, new floor, new ceiling, knocked out the wall to the one dining room, full new electrical/wiring and lighting. We even fixed it so that floor is now *almost* level. Being an old house I think from one side of the house to the other side of the house, there was a 1.5" gradual drop.
Anyways, we stayed in the house. Being that we did it ourselves, it took longer than contract work. But for that time we ate either microwavable meals, bbq meals, or meals that could be made in a toaster oven, and then we'd spend all of our time in the basement.
Stayed in the house, and the kitchen wasn't the only room that was out of commission! We were adding about 1000 square feet to the house and improving the existing rooms. We had only the bathroom and the bedroom and in the dining room (which was stacked full of boxes) we had a tiny space with a little table, a microwave, a Mr. Coffee, and a couple of other things. All other rooms were either torn apart or full of boxes. We lived with this for at least three months and we did not once threaten to kill each other.
I remodeled an entire house while living in it. We lived in a construction zone. I got transfered and finished the whole job right before selling it. Its sad I never stayed one night in that house in its finished state.
Yes! We stayed in the house. Couldn't afford to do anything else. We got a cooler and kept lunch meat and bread. And ate out sometimes. You do what you have to do!........Welcome to AB!!!!!!!!!!
Sure, many,I was a contractor and did kitchens.I only had a few who couldn't use their kitchens due to large changes, walls moving, etc,if you plan it right,in phases, you can have use of it as often as every night.Good luck.
I remodeled my kitchen and I stayed while the remodeling was being done.
My wife and I remodeled our kitchen about a year ago. We lived in our house during the whole period. It took a little bit to get use to, and we had to accept the fact of not having a kitchen for a period of time. Lets just say we went out for dinner many nights.
The reason why we lived in our house was because of the contractors we had. Starcom Design/Build did a great job of making the whole process stress-free. And the job they did was excellent. If you want to try and see if they can help you out tryin going to: http://www.starcomdesignbuild.com
We remodeled our kitchen a year ago and stayed in the house during the renovation.
