  • It seems that your question was cut at the end... 1) I assume that you are talking about the Bible. Inside the Catholic Mass, they first read some epistles or a part of the Old Testament and you are sitting, and after this, you have to stay for the Gospel reading, and the priest makes a prayer to be purified before reading it. So in the Catholic Church, only the Gospels get a very high respect, not even the sayings of God in the Old Testament. 2) As for the people of your question, I suppose that they are not sure that what they read is exactly God's words. Did God write anything? And most of the Bible is not God's word, anyway. If you would extract in the Bible everything that is attributed to God, how much would be left? I suppose some people choose a particular religion or a particular Church because they feel themselves better at home there, not because they want to follow everything in that religion. Religions are made by people, even if there origin could be in a god, that is the reason that they are so different. Even different Churches inside Christianity.
