My boys run track so I have some answers for ya.. Relay races are team events. They usually involve 4 team members and a baton.. You've seen those. Usually you see the 4x100 (each member runs 100m) the 4x200, the 4x400 and so on... The 400 meter is a sprint.. Long distance is usually 1200, 1500 and 3000 meter... my son runs the 1500 and 3000 and does the 1500 and 3000 race walk as well.. he is a natural distance runner but has not much in the sprint speed that you need for the 100 and 200 and 400 and 800meter races.

A relay is a race where more than one person runs it. if you are on the 4x400 relay that means 4 people run 400ms, it is also known as the mile relay because the total distant adds up to a mile. tips for running the 400 is run as fast as you can because there is no time to get tired. i run the 400, 800 and the mile in track and im currently in my junior year of highschool. what you have to do to run a good 400 race is to get out fast and keep up that speed and it really hits you at the 300m mark and you just have to push the last 100. freshman year when i ran the 400 i would always be last and just take everybody at the 200 but i wouldnt advise it. i dont know how it worked for me it just did. just run your heart out man and everything will be good. also 400m - 1600m (mile) is considered mid distance

well i run track also and the only advice i would give for the 400 is be mindful of wind, if its coming at u, u kinda wanna dip ur head an stay low, but if its behind u then take full on, run with all ur speed after the first 100 meters, pace urself slightly through the first 100, going about 70% than wen u enter the first curve, lean hard and push urself as hard as u can, try to stay within 2-3 people of the lead before u hit ur speed burst.....................oh yeah, a relay is a 4xanything, race, as long as it has batons, 4 legs and 4 people, its a relay.

a 400 meter is a sprint!' you are supposed to sprint it the entire way the mile is long distance. If you want to build endurance when you run, run really fast until you are dead, then jog for awhile, then sprint until your dead then jog for awhile. KEep doing this to become a good long distance runner

A regular race is called an open race. This means that you are the only one running, and you must run the entire distance. A relay is a 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, or a 4x800. This means that one person runs the distance said in the second number, than hands their baton off to the next person. The 400 is a sprint. In theory, you are supposed to sprint the entire thing. The 1500, which is 100m less than the mile, is a distance. First, to get better, you have to train everyday. You will not improve unless you try your hardest every day for a long period of time. Some tips are: On the day of the meet, you want to stretch out for a very long time. Make sure to hold each stretch for at least 20 seconds. Any shorter and your muscle isn't really stretching. Remember to stay relaxed. Tensing just wastes your energy. If you need to, stride the first 100 or 200. Lengthen your strides on the back stretch (second 100). Push yourself on the last 100 for sure. The earlier the better, though. Go at a pace you feel comfortable with, but don't forget, you can rest when it is over.

A relay race is a 4 man race where a baton is passed from runner to runner. Each person runs part of the race and together they complete a distance. The 400 is considered a long srpint. The mile is considered a short distance race. Long distance would be anyting from 3miles to a marathon. In the 400, you should run about 85% the entire way. In the mile you should try to run at an even pace splitting similar times for each 400 meter interval. If you are not that fast you should do speedwork and distance workouts and lower your recovery time in between intervals as the season progresses. Also make sure you run your workouts faster each week than the previous week.

Relays are when four runners each run an equal distance handing over a baton and hopefully getting the baton to the finishing line without mishap 4 x 100 4 x 400 are the usual distances. 400 metres is considered a Sprint race. 800 and 1500 metres or a Mile are considered Middle distance races.
