  • Put her in the smallest room you have, surround her with her bed and favorite toys. Be sure to remove anything you dont want damaged. Good luck.
  • I don't know, but my dog is that way even when we are here! She hides under the farthest thing from everyone in the house, (like my bed, the computer desk, etc.). I figured my kids ruined her, because, when she was 4 weeks old, we had a tornado and severe thunderstorms. Every 5 minutes they were grabbing her and running back to my wife's walk-in closet. Ever since then, when she hears anything even sounding like thunder, she tries to get into that closet! I haven't found any way to calm her down yet. She is 5 years old now.
  • A muzzle is cheap. Otherwise buy some insurance that covers damage by Dogs.
  • Well, at 14 I'm not sure placing her in a large dog crate would help much, but you could try that. Those large dog crates aren't cheap though. I'd also go with Babbling Brook's suggestion about the small room with her toys and her bed. Otherwise you could have her boarded if your gone several days at a time, or during your work hours. These are not always beneficial for your pets, but they are options. I have a 1yo neutered black lab who stays in a crate while I am working, otherwise he chews up EVERYTHING! *UGH!* PS: older dogs may not take a change in scenery very well, so keeping her home may be the bast thing. Good luck!
  • On days that you know it's going to storm or there are going to be fireworks, put her in a bedroom or bathroom, put all the "chewables" up high, and give her something of her own to chew on or cuddle with.
