Pictures that other people have sent to me mostly. The other things can easily be fixed.

Oh, yes. I wrote about 20 songs in guitar tableture (not original, just interpretations), and I though the computer would never crash, when the harddrive did crash all my tabletures were lost. I should had put them on a CD.

Oh No!! You didn't lose your novel did you?! How's it coming along anyway? and no I haven't lost anything because I barely know how to store anything on my PC :)
-
Not yet! I'm going to back up today, just because of this question.

I don't know what to do if your hard drive crashes, that sounds like you have to toss out the computer. But I do know that if you have a problem like downloading something and it screws up your computer. You can use the (go back in time thing) and system restore from an earlier date.

Stories and songs, mostly. I still don't do backups though, so I guess I'll never learn.

yes but luckily I got the hard drive back working and brought a new 1 and could get all the data off it so technically no but in a way yes coz not allot of ppl know how to do that

yep all my photos, i thought they were in two places but my sister rather kindly deleted them of my PC because they were already on her usb hard disk which then promptly blew up
-

No, luckily the very first computer class i took was taught by a lady who broke all of the class of not saving. Ever day you did you lesson and were to backup to disc ever 15 mins, all PC's class were on a master switch and one day mid way though yr, she just look around class and threw the switch. Talk about people yelling, she simple said and did ever body SAVE? 3/4 of class did not, I'll have you know from that day forward it always stuck in my mind about saving. Today I save to disc,USB and have a external drive that automatically backs up which ever files I choose it too.

buy another hard drive and set up a RAID (Redundant Array of Independant Disks/Devices) disk (google it) and you will have 2 drives with the exact same redundant info on them no back up needed and when you delete on master drive you delete on raid drive also, once setup no maintainence

If you place your pics on your hard drive you didn't lose any data, you just might lost the MBR, or any boot up file, but your data is always inside your hard drive. If you have a desktop computer, remove your hard drive, do you any spare computer? Do you have a friend with a desktop computer? If you, just set the jumper on your hard drive to slave. Open the other computer cover, disconnect power supply, look inside for an IDE Cable with an slave connection (make sure you use the same software if you have XP, make sure the other computer have XP, and make sure the other computer can open you pics file extension) Connect the power supply, turn computer on, go to BIOS, and make sure it is found and turned on) or go to my computer and find out if the hard drive was recognized. Then open your hard drive and start looking for your pics. Nothing that is saved on your hard drive is lost, at least no data. For a laptop, open computer, take hard drive out, buy a laptop hard drive connection and connect it to a laptop or desktop via USB cable and open it up, it would recognize without much effort. I hope it help you.
