  • Because in reality most people prefer to complain... It is easier to hope someone else will come along with an easy answer than to put hard work into it. That's everything in life, there are a lot of people who really dig instant gratification.
  • yes people want a quick fix for everything this days. even if it means believeing something without researching it just because it sounds good.
  • I think people pursue religion for different reasons. Some sense something greater than themselves and look for a path to understanding themselves and the human condition. Others seek out religion as a shelter, as something to explain everything for them. I believe it's this group of people who latch on to one narrow perception of the world. They don't want to do independent research, they don't need to critically examine texts or doctrine, the don't want any information that would threaten the neatly laid out roadmap to salvation. There's nothing inherently wrong with religion, only the way in which it's used.
  • Because they're taught to. Not to sound cruel or demeaning to anyone's belief system, but if you are told from day 1 that God exists and is watching you, Santa Claus brings you toys on Xmas, and the tooth fairy leaves you money for lost teeth, you have no reason not to believe it. The difference between God and the Santa Claus in this example is, eventually children will find concrete evidence that Santa Claus doesn't really exist. With God, there is no way to DISprove his existence. Personally, even as an agnostic, I found it incredibly challenging and stimulating to my own belief system to take a number of classes on religion, philosophy and world mythologies as electives in college. I would highly recommend it, especially to people who claim to be secure in their beliefs.
