Is Scripture really the word of God, or is it strictly man's interpretation of phenomena which may or may not represent a God?

It is the word of God spoken through man. It is not a depiction of what happened, but God speaking through man to write what we now call the bible.

o0o0 touchy topic. i guess it depends on who you ask and which scripture you're specifically talking about.

I tend to agree that scripture is "the word of god". But not the way most people consider this. I feel that whatever has been written by man, about religion, any religion, has been "inspired". But I believe that inspiration was internal, not external, and arose from the recognition by the writer that the universe is an awesome place, that within the universe there is spirituality and that spirituality is what prompted the writer to attempt to articulate his/her thoughts into writing.
