A.C.N. is a multi level marketing company that deals in telecommunications ... from telephone to internet ... by becoming a distributor for them, you can get your connection at wholesale prices and you can sign up other people and earn a percentage of their monthly bill as an ongoing commission ... So, getting your internet through something like this would be your best legal deal, as it offers not only a low price for you, but also offers to pay you a residual income. If you like being a hacker, there are lots of wifi systems out there with less than adequate security and there are lots of ways to boost your signal and your reception to be able to get into these systems and use their internet connection for free ... there are even many places that actually offer free internet via wifi, like here in Montreal, all of our libraries offer it free to anyone in range with a library card number as a login ID, and the library card is also free if you can prove you live on the island of Montreal.

I think it's probably Verizon DSL from everyone I have talked with. I live too far in The Woods for it (they only piped in daylight a few years ago) and I eventually bit the bullet and got a satellite uplink when the prices dropped recently. I'm blown away by it, but I was on dialup until earlier this month. It's still way more than my friends pay for the DSL; they're very happy with it and it's pretty amazing.

Most cities and many suburbs have free high-speed internet access all over town. There are thousands of people who leave their WiFi router open, without a password, and the number is growing tremendously. Just drive around your neighborhood with your laptop, to see where they are. If you're not within 200 yards of a neighbor who has free WiFi available, try a higher power WiFi card (1 watt is the legal maximum) with a directional antenna. That will extend your range to about 800 yards. In a year or two, WiMax will extend your range to about 4 miles. Free internet access also means free long-distance phone calls through the internet, using Skype.com. Enjoy!

I had dial-up for years. I was constatntly being bumped off and it was too darn slow. When I got digital cable I switched to high-speed digital internet service. Now I never get bumped, I never have to log on and off, and it is so fast, I barely click on a link and BOOM, I'm there!

You're going to get varying opinions here, obviously. Your two top practical choices right now are cable Internet and DSL phone Internet. While looking on the Internet for a good comparison chart, I found a lot of old and outdated info out there. Claims that phone companies charge you more money for more bandwidth is pretty much a thing of the past. Keep that in mind when doing research. In my area, DSL is more reliable and cheaper than cable Internet. As a general rule, DSL will always be more reliable. Every power outage will kill your cable Internet. Power outages are far more common than telco outages. Also, many phone companies do not require you to have a telephone line in order to get DSL service now. You can order a dry DSL line, which provides the high speed Internet without the cost of an additional land line. This is great if you are a wireless only household. However, cable is often more widely available, simply because DSL availability and speed depends completely upon your distance from the telephone switching station that serves your home or apartment. One thing that people make light of is the fact that DSL is dedicated bandwidth, while cable is shared bandwidth. While this may not be very significant to many people right now, as more an more people jump on the high speed Internet train, there will be more users on every cable connection. More users equals less bandwidth per person. Your DSL connection is always your own, private bandwidth and you will never share it with anyone. Here are a couple of guides for you to look at: http://www.high-speed-internet-access-guide.com/dsl-vs-cable.html http://compnetworking.about.com/od/dslvscablemodem/a/dslcablecompare.htm Since I am a Telco employee, I will always go with DSL, but everyone has their own opinions and experiences.

Depends on what you need. We need availability, QOS (for VOIP) and medium speed. I'm also big on security, so we have been using DSL for about 10+ years with static IPs. Costs a bit more that cable, but for our needs it's worth it.

Cable. It's well worth the $40 a month.

I think that the least expensive DSL gives you the best for the money.
