  • When I was Valedictorian at my high school, I was told by the Principal of the school (after being congratulated) that my acceptance speech and address had to be kept to a limit of "X" minutes. When a student (like me) is told that, s/he writes and reads, then re-reads the same speech over and over, with a stopwatch timing it. In the process of doing all of that, the speech is usually discovered to be too long, and it must be shortened to accommodate the imposed time limit. So, when cutting the length of the speech, the ones in the earliest stages of your education are deleted, not out of disrespect for them, but simply because they probably will NOT be in attendance at your graduation exercises, and you want those attending, to be mentioned, definitely. +5
