It was during a time where poepl wanted something different and rebellious and they were exactly that. They both challenged society with their music and their style.

Well to truly understand what the British invasion meant in 1964 you'd have to understand what kind of music was popular in America at the time. The Beatles & Stones were a huge breath of fresh air. Something entirely different than the manufactured pop (think NSync/Backstreet Boys for a comparison) of that time. Of course the Beatles and the Stones continued to have a great impact after that initial shock. That's because they pretty much changed music and everything that has happened since has been directly attributable to them. Without the Beatles I don't know what music would be like today. They were that important and that influential. You can't take them out of the timeline and have it make any sense.
