Agree, that is probably because they are harder to answer then "what color is your shirt" and not as many people have the answer.
-
generally speaking, we're not talking with a bunch of Nobel lauretes here
-
Sometimes I guess..but honestly my serious questions have always got at least one helpful answer. I try to answer both to the best of my knowledge!!
-
Generally, yes. But I know that many folks here try very hard to answer the more serious questions. Unfortunately, many of us, including yours truly, aren't really that knowledgable on a wide array of topics. I try my best though. For example, I really don't know anything about cars, but I was able to answer a question about Toyota Prius through research. However, that's not always possible.
-
Yes, that has been my experience, but the comment threads are usually better than the answers..
-
I find that most people look for questions that are easy to answer because they want the points to advance their levels. I do notice that there are folks who like to be challenged in here and they prefer answering questions in the tough areas of math, physics, and the techy stuff.
-
I agree. I wait days for answers to serious questions. Perhaps people don't know the answer. I dunno.
-
I do agree that fewer people answer serious questions, and even fewer give serious answers to serious questions.
-
Of course. I barely get answers to my serious questions.
-
Different questions attract different people...But I dont think that asking a serious question is going to make more or less people answer.
-
I love serious questions! They are the ones I look for. Sorry I didn't see them, I'll look more careful. That's why I came to AB, I had some serious questions, and even though it took some time for people to respond I did get some good advice!
-
I have 3 that have 0 responses.
-
Most certainly. Possibly because people don't know the answers and/or don't care to find out. They'd much rather answer a conversational question; it's easier, and they can say almost anything they want. Also there's probably one right answer. If someone already said it, why say it again?
-
Yes I agree. Sometimes I won't ask a question because I don't think anyone will answer it and I try to look up an answer instead.
-
Depends on who's on at the time, what the question is about and how it's asked, probably.
-
No I do not agree. If the serious question is unique, creative and thought-provoking, it will attract more responses than if the question is light, frothy and meaningless. Just because the question is serious doesn't mean it is significant or meaningful to potential responders. The questioner may think the question is quite profound..perhaps others do not share that view. Along with everything else in life, that which is of value is subjective.
-
Yes. People often don't jump into those conversations because they think that it will start a fight. They aren't willing to express their opinions to possibly bet into a debate. To them it just isn't worth it. As for as factual questions, not everyone knows the answer, so why post what you don't know?
-
Yes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have a good sense of humor, but it irks me to see a ridiculous or half-arsed answer to a valid question. For example: Was Henry the VIII mad? This has a serious answer and has been debated by historians for years. But here are the results: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/338657 Nuf said.
-
Yes I do. It hasn't always been this way. But the longer I'm here the more it is starting to feel like any other chat room rather than a place to find REAL answers. Sometimes you get lucky.
-
I do have a handful of questions with no answers. maybe no one knew the answer to a medical question, I didn't watch a show I watch, or just don't like serious questions...who knows? I know I like a good laugh myself sometimes and I will answer some of the silly ones, but I'd love to hear answers to a really serious one!
-
This is true. I have noticed this for a long time. You get many more responses for a question asking for an opinion or something fun than when you ask looking for serious answers.
-
1) Do you mean, they don't get answered any more? Or they get less answering them than not serious ones? 2) I think that many of the serious questions are educational questions, and after you have given a couple of good answers, it would probably no make much sense to give the same answers again and again. 3) It would be very annoying if a growing proportion of serious question would get a smaller number of serious answers, and sometimes no serious answers at all. Apart from some obvious cases, I assume that the asker is looking for a serious answer, and I give one, if I think that the question has not been enough answered. Of course, I could *also* give a funny one.
-
I agree. The serious ones are ok sometimes, but some people like to have fun too, isn't that ok on AB. I have answered both..I love them all.
-
Those are the questions I'm actually looking for... Seems like they would be more open to debate if complicated (and I like debates if the questions is slightly controversial) so I tend to wanna do those, but then if I don't find one right away, I will grab the first one I see...
