Which is more common, mathematicians being philosophers, or philosophers being mathematicians?

    There is lot of formal learning required to become a mathmatician. I don't see how just a philosopher can turn into a mathematician.

    Mathematicians being philosophers. Many make philasophical statements. On the other hand many philosophers do not make mathematical equations.
