  • Yes they can. If they feel that they can not meet the requirements of "light duty" they can most definitely insist you take time off. In many places they are legally bound to do such, in many cases there is a near-dread of causing an at work injury where the employer can be sued. To prevent that they "force" you to take time off. I do not know what line of work you do so I can not tell you if there is a "good" reason.
