Since we're scarce on freshwater, shouldn't scientists be working on perhaps "reproducing" freshwater?

Right now I believe there are several processes in which "undrinkable" water is treated to make it potable and safe for human consumption. One of such processes is desalination.

Rrverse osmosis is another process that has been done for years. Desalination is the other. This is how Saudi Arabia gets most of it's drinking water from the sea.
