  • The role of the government is to administer the provision of such services to the general population. As members of society we sacrifice certain liberties and in return the government protects us and provides education and health care. If they fail to do so, technically, we as the individual could revolt against the government and take back all our civil liberties i.e. we volunteer to be policed in return for the provision of such services.
  • The government has and always will have a major role in funding of education, heath care, housing, job security, care of the elderly and public safety. When it comes to change they are they big dogs in charge. We as Americans need to be protected against a polluted environment, unsafe equipment, on the job dangers, and price fixing. Our dilemma then is to maximize cost effective beneficial regulation. We are in a world where technology is increasingly widespread and corporations are international, protection for average citizens can come only from government. The responsibility of the government to solve social problems has been debated since the drafting of the U.S. Constitution. Conservatives believe individuals should take responsibility for their own problems rather than rely on the government for assistance. They think private agencies such as charities, churches and foundations whose funds are raised via voluntary contributions from individuals and businesses should support services and programs which address health, medical, educational and housing problems for the indigent. And, when government takes responsibility for social programs, it should be at the state or local levels. The government should be responsible for offer and publicly fund services and programs to attain and maintain some minimum standard of living for all citizens. Private agencies are able to raise sufficient resources to respond to all of the educational, medical, employment, housing and nutritional needs of society. The national government should provide funding and set social policy standards. They are ones that get allof these taxes dollar. They create more mess than they take care of. We need to help ourselves before we try to help someone else.
