There is, in general, no 'best' brand of oil. All of the major brands meet the necessary certifications. Under specific (unusual) circumstances, certain brands of oil perform *slightly* better than other oils. In your application, I doubt you'd notice any difference between them. It IS demonstrably true that synthetic motor oils have superior properties to petroleum-based oils, but again the differences are small and probably don't matter under your circumstances. If you want to know more than you ever imagined there was to know about motor oil, this is a good web site: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ As for oil filters, I prefer to use the OEM (Honda) filters. Having seen some oil filters cut open, the Honda ones seem better-built than many of the aftermarket filters. http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html Even so, if you change your oil and filter regularly, it probably won't affect the long-term durability of you engine to use aftermarket filters. In short, change your oil every 5k miles, use any name-brand oil, use any correct-size oil filter, and don't stress about it.
