Yes, you will need to have proof of identity, so that no one else can vote and say they are you

You need proof of who you are and where you live. IE: driver's licence and a bill or something of the sorts with your name and current address on it if your DL address doesn't match with your township. Your local city hall can tell you more about this.

No, in many, many years of voting, they've never once asked for my ID or registration card. If I ever got there & found out that someone else had voted "in my name," I'd be quite concerned.
