  • I know that here in Pensacoa, Florida they DONT inform the media. Somehow they always fnd out. Out of everybody on the force at least one person spills it. If word doesnt get out they announce it on the radio as soon as somebody calls it in. the police dont like to stay in one place for too long because of that reason.
  • The police here explain that the point is to make people follow the law, not to "catch" them. They also point out that the announced check points are not the only ones that are set up.
  • the same reason they announce the check points. you need to stop thinking of police as people trying to get you in trouble there looking out for you and there trying to keep you safe not just right up tickets and be pricks. (tho some are)
  • Where I live they are never announced. Radar gets called in and broadcast on radio, but checkstops always appear out of nowhere. I never have a problem because I never drink & drive, so I actually like to see them. I've followed and called in so many drunks that it's comforting to see the police trying to be proactive on that front.
  • This is a catch-22 situation. By notifying the public, it gives the police good public relations and yes, it also gives the check point locations. If you have ever been in a police check point location, you will understand that drunk drivers do not care about police road blocks. they are too intoxicated to care about anything.
