The better question is, "What does Satan get out of it?" I haven't heard about any deals where he gets a reprieve if he manages to get 51% of the human on his side. Maybe he just hates us!

He was placed there to test us..

I don't think God placed him here. He was cast out of the kingdom of God. The bible never said God put him on earth. I think Satan has free will just like you and I but he just isn't welcome in the kingdom anymore

On day 6 of creation, Satan had not fallen... God gave him the task of being the light bairer and he was given dominion over all the angels in heaven. After this,( It isn't written exactly what happens)but Satan became over burdened with pride and wanted to overthrow God. Then a great war occured in heaven where he and 1/3 of the angels were thrown into hell. Hell was designed for the angels that had fallen, not humans. It was my opinion that satan had tempted eve before he was thrown out of heaven. And thus so, the seed of self centerness and pride was sown.

God did not place the devil here on earth! The devil was part of the angels, a choir master. God sent him, the devil out of heaven and he became what we know as "The Fallen Angel". What other way to rebel than to make people do what was/is contrary to what God wants of us, humans?
