I live in Mexico.. and I'm gonna have to tell you nothin compares to the authentic food. I have been to a zillion mexican restaurants in the states and your best bet is a family owned mexican restaurant where the abuelita cooks the food...YUM!
-
My house or a few places in Mexico but not everywhere. And a few friends make really good Mexican food, too. The best doesn't come from a restaurant. Some of the best are from little stands.
-
Mexico...but there are a lot of fish taco's near the water in mexico so if that's not what you are talking about then at least somewhere close to the boarder like So. Cal (where i live) We have amazing Mexican food in CA....

A regional restaurant chain called "Rey Azteca" that's still family owned and operated. There are only four locations as of now, but the food is SOOO worth it. Very authentic and very affordable. My most favorite dish from there is their Camarones (shrimp) Quesedilla: 2 tortilla shells stuffed with large shrimp, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and some sour cream and other seasonings for flavor. (My mouth is watering right now...)

Ummm, Mexico. Or a few of my Mexican friends houses. They can COOK!

I'd like to try Mexico since the places around here really suck.

In St. Louis I would recommend Las Fluentes. It is the closest I have found here.

It is in the middle of nowhere -East Glacier, Montana, but Serrano's can not be beat! http://www.serranosmexican.com/

If you can't make it to Mexico,go to a Mama and Pop little hole in the wallon the otherside of town.that where it's good.
-
Are you talking about real Mexican food or Tex-Mex? Most people get them confused, they are different.
-
I prefer authentic Mexican restaurants over the chain restaurants. Forget about th fast food places. Luckily there are a few very good Mexican restaurants close to where I work. We order out for lunch from one of them at least twice a month.
-

If you can't go to Mexico, forget the big chains. You gotta find a small hole in the wall, mom & pop place or even a small chain. There's a place called El Maguey a few minutes from my house in St. Louis. There are a few of them around, but they taste great and they are reasonably priced, too. Other than that, the best Mexican cooking I've had is when we have a Cinco de Mayo lunch at work and my Mexican co-workers cook for us. We all pitch in money for them to buy all the groceries. It's the bomb!

Well it ain't Taco Bell

When I was in Mexico City on my honeymoon, we ate at a load of fine restraunts. Nothing in the US compared to them. But in the US, the best I ate at is El Alfro in Smyrna, TN.
