I think you'll get a more definitive answer from an actual moderator...but they have been really good to me..Once they removed a really offensive comment someone said about me..and they have intervened in really potentially ugly situations and put a stop to them..I don't always agree with them..but I think that they do an excellent job.

Weeeell, we moderators sift through the hundreds of flags that are submitted every day and decide whether or not to accept them, based on some general guidelines. We always try to be consistent and fair when doing this, and we get no points whatsoever for doing this. Also, I have noticed that the act of flagging is often referred to as moderation, but the actual moderators are the ones who approve or reject these flags. We moderators moderate the moderated. :)
