  • Here are some small tips to stop any arguments that may arise on the phone as well as to help prevent them in the first place. 1. If there is a specific issue that seems to come up in conversation right before an argument, talk about that subject in person and try to resolve it. If an issue has been completely resolved in person, it will be difficult to make an argument out of it on the phone. 2. If you sense a fight happening, take your time speaking. Speak slowly and quietly, and think about every word you say. Doing this will likely calm down both you and your girlfriend, and will prevent you from trying to speak over her. 3. When a fight happens, suggest to your girlfriend that you both take 30 seconds and think about how the other person is feeling. No one should talk during those 30 seconds, but this time will give both of you the chance to think about it. At the end of the 30 seconds, both of you should explain what you think is making the other person is angry. This action should change the mode of conversation to be more understanding than argumentative.
