  • You can be excommunicated from things other thSo no an the Church. It is a from of baning someone from a place, group, etc. So no you don't have to be Catholic.
  • I don't think so. Other religions also excommunicate people. I know that the Mormons do, too.
  • Only if you're being excommunicated from the Catholic church :)
  • I would think that by not being Catholic you already are excomunicated. My logic is as follows: The Catholic Church's excommunications generally meant that the people were no longer in communion with the church, thus could no longer receive communion which is kind of the centre of the Catholic faith. By being excommunicated you became ex (out of) communion...which technically you are if you're not Catholic.
  • No, Not at All! Many Religions are happy to Oblige!!! Makes U wonder why people get into Religion in the first place??? John
  • Well, yes and no. Yes, you do need to be catholic to be excommunicated from the church, but you don't need to be catholic to be excommunicated by The Amish. So, basically, yes, you need to be a member of a group to be excommunicated from that group.
