  • Yes. First you need to be sure why you want this career...and if it is a good fit for your personality, potential, academic strengths and interests (a good career counsellor can assess this for you with career testing instruments). Next, a degree in Psychology or sociology or human services or social work...something very relevant. Then you need to find an entry-level position in a counselling/therapy environment where your counselling skills will be supervised. Where you can continue to grow professionally and gain the experience and maturity to move onwards and upwards in your career path. If you ever want to be in private practice (like myself), then your schooling is NEVER finished. You will need to obtain a Master's degree and, possibly, a PhD. A Medical school isn't what you want....mental health therapy is NOT medical per se..it is psychological. Good luck! If I can help with any information I'd be happy to oblige.
  • Hi SuzyCue I am very interested in going into the same field of work as yourself - and I would just like to ask you a few questions about your experience and also your education. Would love to have a chat with you - and not sure how I send a member a message on this website! Thanks, Chelsea :)
