  • My niece had something similar, she had to were what looked like a bicycle helmet for like 6 months to round it off. The longer you wait the more difficult it will be to correct.
  • My best friend's baby would only sleep in her swing, so the back of her head is very flat. She is now 2 years old and it is still very flat, and her hair growth is very thin there as well.
  • That happend to my friends little girl too. She also had to where a helemt looking thing on her head for about 6 to 8 months too. Did a doctor ever tell her to get it checked out? Good luck, hope you can talk her into getting it checkd out!
  • I've seen it before--it's unusual but not terribly so. It will impede hair growth, but eventually will round out during childhood (when baby doesn't sleep as much). If the look is displeasing to your friend, she can take baby to the doctor. If there were a problem, it would likely be caught at one of baby's many check-ups. Are they still saying don't put baby to bed on his belly? That was the most recent thing I heard, but they change that theory every few years just for fun.
  • Yes, this happened to my baby that I just had last year. He did not like sleeping on his tummy. He is now 19 months old and his head is now very round and looks normal; so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Have a great Day!
  • Yes. I have heard of it and seen it. It doesn't help that you and we know this though. Baby Flathead's mother, "Empty Head", seems to be unwilling to let facts cloud her judgement. Where is the baby's Blockhead father? Maybe he would listen to reason?
  • I had heard that you shouldn't put the baby to sleep on its stomach due to SIDS/crib death. There's some statistical increase in the likelihood of SID when the baby sleeps on its stomach. They say it's good to give the baby a little bit of time on its stomach, when awake, to encourage them to start to crawl and develop those muscles to hold them up. But that shouldn't influence the shape of its head one way or the other. But really, the child's personal doctor knows best- if the mom says that she's doing what the doctor told her, who are you to question her? Mommy drive-bys suck.
  • Wow thats really bad in China they do that to babies to make there heads weird shapes and they stay like that it also causes brain damage and hair growth problems...
