No. It should be available for study. Any student should be able to research any religion, and the best place to go to find out about a religion is it's holy books.

It should be available from 9th grade onward. Also removed until that time should be the Holy Bible, the Talmud and the Bhagavad Gita. These books most likely confuse students under 13-14 year s of age and more importantly, if a child is being taught a religious discipline, it is the duty of the parent(s) to handle it, not the elementary school library. I'm open to an alternate theory, of course..

Only if the Bible's banned too.

No. The government should not be in the business of banning any book with historical and cultural significance. It takes a small minded person to hide that which he disagrees with.

First off, my answer here is going to address all religious texts, because let's face it, the vast majority of them are violent and inherently intolerant of other faiths. I don't think *Any* books should be banned in our schools. I think religious texts in particular are an important resource for some students to have because they offer an important perspective on certain historical events. When high school students are studying history and they start discussing the Crusades, for instance, it might be useful for them to study parts of the Bible and the Qur'an to learn what fuels those types of conflicts. However, there's very little taught below the high-school level to which a Theological perspective could add anything, and young children aren't really capable of understanding the difference between studying religious beliefs and taking them to heart. In short, I think schools should treat religious texts just like any other resource, making sure they're accessible when and if they're relevent to the ciriculum, and when they're not... Well, not.

I am not for banning any books ever! No Nazi's here! With that being said though, I don't believe religious books should be taught in school. School is not the place to teach religion, that can be done at church or at home. Religious books are not fact and they are not science and they are not testable nor proof of anything. They are merely personal faith belief and not reality. There are so many discrepancy's, inaccuracy's and personal moral ideals.

Many years ago the bible was banned in South Africa (certain passages) because of its content. If you can ban the Quran then you can most certainly ban the Holy Bible for the exact same reasons as well as much of literature taught in schools and much of Hollywood movies and books that inspire these movies. Historically Muslim countries never had Columbines and the like that are common in USA and other countries among mostly Christians and others non muslim traditions. (Historians know what I am talking about) Put asside countries officially ruled by the west or occupied by the west. If you mean (without clearly stating it)in your question should the educational system be exclusively a Judeo Christian institution then that is a matter of consitutional law. Otherwise banning any book opens up a precedent for banning any other book so similar nature and nothing is more similar to the Quran if not worse in issue of intollerance and violence than the Holy Bible. Then you would have to ban world History classes in order to prevent students from learning about Christian intollerance toward Jews and other peoples around the world. Why is there no ban of violent music, devilworship, violent video games, promotion of alchohol, ciggarette and drug use in music and films. The Quran has been around for over 1400 years and if it was that dangerous then none of you would still exist to talk against it. Just think about it with an open mind and a humble heart. What I mean is that here in the west there are so many muslims in the world of all colors, races, creed, languages and many of which are working in Finincial districts, medical professions, food preparation, law enforcement and the list goes on but they are never given any credit for being good law abiding tax paying citizens and usually there kids are not on the front page of the news papers for terrible crimes. If the Quran has made you safe in the pressence of these people why should you feel threatened by it. Especially those of you who have worked abroad, traveled for pleasure, studied abroad, or those of you in the film making industry have been so often surrounded by millions of muslims on location and still always return home safe and happy with lots of money in your pockets too. Mind you that there is footage of A Missippi Govenor stating that Segregation in the South USA and violent acts against the blacks, jews and any Non white Christian protestant was based upon exact passages quoted by the Governor from the Holy Bible as well every Klu Klux Klans men claimed to be a firm believer in Jesus Christ and fearful of ALmighty God yet there was never a ban on the Bible because it was a white thing and never threatened the power base. Lets be sincere so God can bless us and forget nonsense that will only get us in more trouble. I do believe in the constitutional right of certain schools to have their own carriculm and parents rights to place their students in schools that do not teach ideals that are offensive to their family values.
