In my opinion its just because she happens to be a black woman with a good talk show. I think being black only gave her a little more admiration. I dont care about the color of ones skin or their gender, if the show sucks.. i wouldnt watch it.

She is a black woman who pulled herself out of poverty and became a colossal success. People love that. Despite her success she retained her "average person" quality. She's like the nice neighbor lady who likes everyone and is always happy. We are drawn to that.
