  • Christmas has become so commercialized it is hardly a religious holiday anymore, but more a time to celebrate giving...Besides that, I don't know of any atheist family that would deny a kid a christmas time because of religious (or in this case nonreligious) beliefs.
  • No. I am atheist. I celebrate the consumer holiday. My friends/family would probably be disappointed if I stopped giving them tokens of love every year (yes; atheists do have love in them)
  • If you're celebrating it as a commercial holiday, it's not any more hypocritical than Christians who do it. If you're celebrating it as a christian holiday, I'd say that makes you agnostic or a christmas-christian (church attendance is double on christmas and easter).
  • Somewhat. But, let's face it, the true meaning of Christmas was lost long ago. It is now just a gathering where people exchange gifts. I bet there are many atheist families that celebrate Christmas. Such as my own.
  • No. My family are all atheist but we celebrate Christmas not because of the religious connotations but because it is a social norm that we enjoy. And besides mid-winter festivals pre-date Christianity by a long way. I always think of it as a knees up to relieve the doom and gloom.
  • 80% of non-Christians celebrate Christmas. It could be a cultural festivity, as well as a religious one. I think it depends on if you're excited about Santa, or excited about a baby.
  • Christians don't seem to mind celebrating the pagan holiday so why should atheists? Well, some Christians preach against Christmas and Easter because of the pagan origins, but they are in the minority.
  • We just explain to our children that Christmas is our Winter Holiday and Easter is our Spring Holiday. All of these religious holidays were originally just seasonal celebrations anyway. Religious people seem to forget that...
  • No it's not. You're celebrating family not the Jesus thing. Remember that Christianity hijacked the holidy from the Pagans and twisted it around to fit their own agenda of hypocrisy
