It makes me think that the Pastor, or whatever, of that church is a homophobic asshole. I am certain that he only has friends in his congregation, other homophobes, and people who do not care that he is a homophobic asshole. I think that he has a pathetic life and probably most of any congregation that goes into that church is likewise pathetic. That is about it.

Many people who call, or have called, themselves Christian have been searching for the exception to, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," since the day it was uttered.

It doesn't make me feel anything, but I see it as an example of a church that's lost it's way and turned aside from Scripture. I'm not a biblical expert but I know of noplace in Scripture where it says that God hates anything other than sin itself. God hates sin but He loves us - even though we do nothing but sin day after day. If God hated us along with our sin we wouldn't exists at this point.

This may be of interest. About five months ago a documentary programme was released entitled 'Keith Allen Will Burn In Hell', about the Wetsboro Baptist Church, Phelps and the members of his family engaged in it. During the documentary the presenter Keith Allen worked to get the Phelps family to condemn various things (he didn't have to work hard at all in fact), among them illegitimacy, childbirth out of wedlock, homosexuality (Phelps' favourite drum), etc. All these people would, in Phelps' stated view, end up roasting in hell. I've rarely seen such hilariously shocked faces when evidence was presented that Phelps' daughter (or daughter-in-law), active in his 'church' had given birth out of wedlock. [Edit] - just confirmed it is Phelps' daughter, Shirley. Put simply, they're a bunch of nutters (and some members of Phelps' family agree and have publicly stated so). Frankly I'm surprised no-one has shot the bugger yet. I must admit, knowing what this lot get up to, if I lived in the vicinity I'd be tempted to be out late at night with a view to burning his 'church' down. A truly disgusting and repugnant individual.

That's nothing new for me. I used to see that kind of stuff all the time in my hometown. There are actually a some very radical Christian denominations that have their roots there. Those churchs often have things like that on the sign out front. I'm not surprised by it anymore.

These are the people who - Picket funerals of American soldiers Picket Billy Graham events, saying that Billy Graham will burn in hell for not denouncing homosexuality strongly enough. (???) Showed up to picket the funerals of the Amish girls who were murdered last year, with signs calling them "whores". They had to be bribed to leave, to prevent them from disrupting the Amish funeral service. Carry signs like: "Homosexuality = Death," "Fags Die, God Laughs," "Matthew Shepard Rots in Hell," "AIDS: Kills Fags Dead", "Thank God for 9/11", "Thank God for Katrina", "Thank God for IEDs", and "Your Pastor Is A Whore" Protest the AIDS Memorial Quilt as "100,000 living fags slobberin' around 45,000 dead fags" Said "The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell". WOW! As someone who was raised in protestant churches, I am quite angry that any church would claim that! I mean, the statement "God is love" pretty much sums up the whole thing. God does not hate people. God hates sin. Whether or not homosexuality is a sin - well, that is between God and the individual. However, there are many other sins addressed in the Bible that people seem to not worry about - like sex outside of marriage. I suppose if this church would post that "God hates fags", then they would have to also say that "God hates people who sleep with more than one person in thier lives..." It makes me so angry. Why can't people who claim to be christains just love people.

Well, considering that I have yet to see a decent/good church that uses cute (or not so cute) sayings on a billboard in front of the church, I would be irritated that such a "church" would give such a wrong message and alienate many who ought to be embraced and taught truth and love, instead of those lies and hate.

I think that they have twisted things greatly. God disapproves of homosexual activity. If the person leaves off the activity, they can come into an approved standing with God. I think the Church runs the risk of getting vandalized or burned down for such an inflammatory stand.

That makes me feel horribly sad. God is love and His word teaches that we are NOT to judge each other and to do so is not pleasing to Him. His word teaches that He does not judge us as we judge each other. Before pointing at the speck in another's eye.. we should deal with the log in our own. Yes, there are teachings against homosexuality in the Bible. I am unclear on things myself to be honest but I see a difference between people having sex with just anyone to get their kicks (which is against His ways) and two people of the same sex who share a beautiful love with each other. I believe in my heart that God knows this difference way more than we pretend to know. Not all believers have the audacity to speak for God in such hateful ways and it saddens me that messages like that are placed outside His places of worship. This is NOT His message to us. He loves each and every one of us. We are His children.

I would never attend that church. Isn't a church supposed to teach you to love each other? That is absolutely awful.

First and foremost let me say I am a Christian. Proudly. And I am straight. This type of judgementalness (Is that even a word?) truly drives me insane. As a child the church I went to taught us that it is not our position to judge others, that God alone has the right to judge a person. I think the way too many "Christians" forget this fact. I believe it is my job in this world to live my life the way God wants me to and help others to live that way who want to. But it is NOT my job or even my right to judge others.

Oh, guess what? I saw a documentary on these people. An English dude interviewed several members of this "church" which is really more of a cult than anything else. The whole church seems to be one large, inbred family. The protest the funerals of gay people, and soldiers, along with others. I was wondering why soldiers were included. Well, they think that gay people are "fags" (obviously), but so is anyone who supports gay rights or even just doesn't openly and vindictively attack gays. They are all "fags" to them. And since they believe America to be full of "fags," anyone who fights to defend America is also a "fag" and is going to hell. Some good news is that these people are pretty much hated by everyone, and only socialize within their own group ('cause everyone else are "fags"). When these people protest, usually another, larger group of people show up to protest them. People throw things at them to, even the kids...which isn't very nice, but they bring their kids with them to protest these funerals, so it's the least they could expect. One of the families of a soldier who's funeral was protested sued the church and won, and now they have to pay a large sum of money...can't remember how much, but it's definitely more than they have. Of course, they won't pay, but at least people are realizing the trouble they cause. Now, despite how crazy these people are, I still don't feel bad about it. Because they are, in fact, crazy. I know that they are an extremely rare group and are hated by pretty much everyone. That makes me happy.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. Let me tell you a little story. When I was an undergraduate in university, a high-profile politician visited our campus to speak. After his lecture, I stopped off at the cafeteria before returning to my residence. While in line for a coffee, I got engaged in conversation with a fellow who said he was there because he was convinced the politician we had come to hear was born again, and wanted to meet him. He then handed me a pile of religious tracts. I thought this peculiar, but said to myself "he has his opinion, after all" and had no hesitation in sitting down for a coffee with the stranger, who seemed nice enough. It wasn't very long before my opinion changed. The fellow suddenly looked around at the people seated at nearby tables. There was a group of Indian students at one table, a group of blacks at another, and a contingent of Chinese at a third. Lowering his voice, he said, "See those people? They're all the Devil's servants." That was enough for me. I got up without so much as a word, without finishing my coffee, walked out of the cafeteria, and tossed the pile of tracts into the nearest garbage can. I felt revolted all the rest of that day by this idiot's comments. Religious fanaticism is a mental illness and should never, under any circumstances, be confused with genuine religion, which is meant to unite not divide humankind. Unfortunately, many so-called "Christians" seem to have forgotten that Jesus walked the Earth preaching the gospel of tolerance and understanding toward all. I suspect fanatical followers of other religions have similarly distorted their messages.

There could be two explanations for this. Someone could have wanted to hurt the church, and took that sign and changed it and took pictures.
