This depends on the current condition of your NES. I recently unearthed mine and was disappointed to find that it would not play my games...even after I totally passed out from blowing into them (those of you that understand this...you are old). However after some researching, I found that there are inexpensive kits that can be purchased online to help clean your system. This is a fairly simple process, but it may mean you also have to dish out some cash for a new 72 pin connector, the device that reads the information off your NES. The following link has a pretty good set of directions for cleaning a system and your cartridges. However, I used rubbing alcohol instead of the cleaning products this guy suggests. http://home.centurytel.net/wcp/nes/ If your nintendo still does not work, it may need a new 72 pin connector. These can easily be found on eBay or other websites for no more than $10 to $20.

Thanks - I actually found out that you can simply clean your games with rubbing alcohol - which worked!!! I was told that if further problems exist - it is due to the connector inside of the game console itself and thus would need a new one as you stated.

I always used rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip. I was warned not to do that, but after all these years I've never had a problem. Think I'll look into the connectors though.
