Ehhh I have a bad habit of using it with everyone, so I would say its genderless.
-
It's generally to males. It's basically another way to say, "Man"
-
Male - Aerosmith - Dude looks like a lady - would not be a title if lady looks like a lady.
-
Males where I live
-
I am a dudette....dudes are males in my book.
-
I say it's genderless. I think perhaps years back it was generally used to refer to males. I am female and I call everyone dude :-) It's kinda like saying "come on man" I say that to people all the time.
-
Being from California, to me "Dude" means, specifically, a male. A "Dudette" is a female.
-
For me its genderless. When I was in third grade circa 2000 it was not appropriate to call a lady dude, but every guy was known only as "dude" or "man" by the other young guys. Now we all use both for everyone of all ages (except the teachers).
-
The original definition of "Dude" was: "An adult male elephant". Considering that, I don't think it's an appropriate form of address for a female. If you wanted to adhere to the same rule for females, you would call them "Cows". (Needless to say, one shouldn't take slang too literally).
-
I'd say genderless. Me and most of my friends tend to refer to each other via text, email or facebook as dude. Its easy, friendly, and the word has progressed past the original definition to us.
-
I think its genderless. Just like "dork."
-
I'd vote genderless. I have 3 sisters.. so all in all we're 4 girls and my mum gets confused so she just calls us 'DUDE' :P
-
i always say dude..dude.lol.everyone can do it.lmao
-
As a female, I don't like to be called 'dude'. I think it refers exclusively to males.
-
In origin, see http://worldwidewords.com, it is definitely masculine. I would say that it held definitely masculine connotations well into the 1990s, but is rapidly becoming genderless.
-
Lets just say... I worked for the Girl Scouts for a while, and tended to refer to the girls (ALL girls, mind you) as "guys" or "dude" regularly. Even "guys" can be genderless. "Gals" and "dudette" just sound stupid to me.
-
Genderless. I call alot of people 'dude'.
-
I've had people refer to me as 'dude' and I'm a girl. Don't ask me why; I don't use that term.
-
I call my female friends dude as well as the boys.
-
I call everyone "dude," and no one seems to mind. Actually, I mostly use "dude" in the same place that I use "man." Doooooooooooooooooooood
-
i think it's genderless! i use the word on my girlfriends too, and my mom, grandma, and aunts, everyone!
