Undercover contract drug agent claims to recover some pills, but she is not lised on the evidence chain of custody-her control officer states she (control officer) written report is that she recoved the pills-so is the chain broken?

I'd say so. The contract office was first to touch the evidence and, I assume, move it from the place where it was discovered. Once that has happened, you cannot credibly place the evidence at the scene, not to mention that having someone not named in the chain handling evidence taints the evidence.
