  • Ah theres the rub! I would have to say it was Lord Olivier. He did a cracking job of Henry V too.
  • Gibson is cool!! However, Olivier is the best ever...the rest just copied him. As the saying goes... There is no greater compliment than imitation!!
  • Sorry to disagree, but I can't stand Olivier's Hamlet. In my humble opinion, Kenneth Branagh shines above others. Of course, I never saw Sir John Gielgud on stage. He's said to have been magnificent. John Barrymore was a huge success when he played it on Broadway and enjoyed some fame for it when they went to London. I did not care for either Gibson or Hawke. (I played the king last summer in the Hilo Community Players' 31st Annual Shakespeare in the Park. It was a roaring success for our little group.)
