How do you tell a 5 year old that someone they loved died?

you'd be surprised how much a five or six year old understands. most people think that they don't get it, but believe me, they do. Somebody i loved deeply died when i was six and i knew what they meant when my parents said that he went to be with god in heaven. i knew i was never going to see him again. and i was mad at my parents that they hadn't told me straight out, left me to wonder. i would tell them straight out, but say it in a calm gentle tone. then tell them that it's okay to cry and hurt, it's normal. that they can talk about the person as much as they want, the more they do the better it is. i wish somebody had told me those things. i think that's the best way.
