Pope Saint Gregory I (the Great) died in 604 C.E. probably from natural causes. In 604, it was rather hard to tell and, if the cause of death was recorded at all, many records have been lost over the last 1,400 years. Here is a nice article on Gregory's life: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06780a.htm With love in Christ.

He died in 604, apparently of old age. He became Bishop of Rom in 590 Sic Wikipedia: "In line with his predecessors such as Dionysius, Damasus, and St. Leo the Great, St. Gregory asserted the primacy of the office of the Bishop of Rome. Although he did not employ the term "Pope"..." He also oversaw the evangelisation of Britain.
