That could be useful. Or, you could just stay away from that particular ABer.
-
YES!!! There is this person on here who I swear like "follows" me around on here and leaves dumb comments after everything I say!
-
Yes Kitt I would. I have a feeling I know exactly who your speaking of. Please add me to that list!
-
it could be misused, couldn't it? by people who are rude and offensive.
-
I don't care for censorship but I would love to have an "ignore this user" feature.
-
They will never do that because the original aim of the site was to build a database of answers. Limiting the number of potential answerers would obviously limit the number of answers. At least you can unsubscribe from comment threads now.
-
Sounds good, but I think the downside to that is that you would only receive a limited ammount of answers, denying others the opportunity to express their opinions. Forget the fact that it is somewhat undemocratic, I feel it will make AB way more "cliquish" than it already is.
-
That would be wonderful, wouldn't it? An ignore feature? I'm in, start the petition!
-
yup their should be such option like ignore user, report as bogus etc
-
That would be excellent.
-
I guess I have been lucky, there has really been only one for me and he is not on any more. If I do run across rudness or offensiveness, I sometimes comment, I sometimes flag but usually I just ignore it. It's inevitable that, on most forums, you will encounter something like this on occasion. I find that, here, the positive far outweighs the negative. Besides, they can simply change their names and then hound you even more.
-
It will never happen but it's nice to dream isn't it?? I would love it:) Going to put that on my wish list for Santa!

I can't say I agree with you there. If you made it so that completely blocking all input from a user was as simple as clicking a button, the main people who would get use out of it would be the very trolls you hope to repel with it. Can you imagine how much havoc a troll or flamer could wreak if they had the power to completely block anyone who tried to defend their innocent victims? Users should not have to option to censor others in any context for any reason other than if they are being truly abusive, in which case the issue should be referred to the staff so the specific content or the troll itself can be removed. I think a feature by which you could have selected users or content not show up when *You* view a page would serve the same purpose with much less potential for abuse. I'm all for getting rid of trolls, but this is supposed to be an open forum. And knowing the AB community as well as I do, I think most of us around here are mature enough to just flag and ignore trolls and inflammatory users until their feeble minds get bored and they go away. We don't need, and shouldn't have, anything as drastic as a "Restraining Order" system, nor *Any* kind of tool that allows widespread censorship.
-
Actually, I'm not for it.
-
No because some people give me what I think are rude answers but they're not just telling me what I want to hear so I respect them too.
-
No,I think that the feature could be misused as a "shunning" device for groups of people who get off on that kind of thing.
-
Yes! An "ignore" feature would be helpful!
-
Sounds like a reasonable option. Other sites have the ability to block the losers. For that matter you should be able to block that person from trolling you too. Now, that would be a good idea. A way to block someone who is trolling or harassing you from being able to comment, rate or even see your questions/answers at all. Maybe there would be less problems if there were something like that around.

I think it would be great if ABers could learn to control their tempers. Yeah, I know, that is asking a lot. It would be a great tool from keeping warring factions from continuing to fight with each other if they chose to use it. Of course, it would also be great but asking a lot for people to take their gripes with each other offline and use e-mail instead. Like any tool AB creates and offers, it would be nice to have as long as it was not abused. Even nicer if such things were unnecessary. I have high expectations I suppose.

No I don't. I think it would hurt the database here. It is a question and answer site, a public forum for exchanging ideas. That can't happen freely if someone can block another member. Questions aren't just asked for that one person. It is also information for the future, others searching for answers. What if the person with the very best answer was the one person that was blocked? What if one of the members wanted to apologize and try to make amends? I'd rather people learn to stay away from each other if they feel there is a problem. And if possible, make amends and become civil to each other.

Nope... I've found that even those who are consistently rude or offensive, at times, have good answers, even to those they are consistently rude and offensive to. Just try to ignore (or flag) their problematic questions and answers, and let a CL (listed in my profile - "Community Leaders") or the staff know (through feedback) questions with "bad" answers, or answers with "bad" comment threads. If a single statement doesn't stop the abuse, unsubscribe from the thread and report it. Sooner or later, you may notice that they DO give some good answers. If you let them know you appreciate those, then they MAY leave you alone. ;-)

You already have the option of complaining and flagging the answer. Many people cannot take disagreement with their opinions and many people state opinions that they think are correct and are totally exaggerated or wrong and don't understand why people disagree with them. If you are a coward and cannot stand the disagreement then you should not be using answerbag and rude and offensive can be subjective. So my answer is: no.
-
i didn't have a problem with anyone here until recently...i just don't understand why some people need to make others feel bad...really pathetic. a block option would be nice...
-
I think some of the answers here are thinking you would want to block out from other members as well. You do mean just blocking out individually don't you? Not whole groups? Salaam
-
I would love to be able to block certain individuals from my Q&A
-
An ignore user would be acceptable, but you are asking questions on a public forum. Everyone gets to put in their two cents within the Answerbag rules. Not yours.
-
Isn't that communist? I left QnA's because they did and/or do stuff like that. I'd rather keep it up to us what we personally find offensive, then just don't answer whomever is being the arse.

I believe in free speech to much to block someone. When you post a question you are casting bread upon the waters so to speak and you never know who is going to hit it. I have had some people rude or not who made me look deeper into a subject due to their comments and realized they had a point. I think that's what it's all about. I don't need my ego stroked. If someone disagrees I am willing to hear it. I welcome the negative points as well as the posotive points for the same reason. If they get too rude or nasty there is always the option of turning off comment notifications and the question just fades into oblivion. :)
