I would find it sad, to say the least.
-
yes.
-
Somewhat, I would then teach them how to do it or make it part of their daily chore...
-
Yep, that's seriously bad. Unless the kid was too busy going to millionaire school or something, but even then I'd call it neglect.
-
Most definitely. It's important for kids of all ages to learn how to take responsibility for themselves. Chores should be appropriate for the child's age and even young children can and should learn to take responsibility for themselves. The last house we lived in had a dishwasher, but I preferred to teach my children to wash the dishes by hand because I felt that I was teaching them more. This may sound extreme, but that's my belief.

Well, I think that even if the teenager has never done it before, they could probably figure it out on their first try. :) But they should definitely be doing it! Pitching in is the least a teen can do.

Yes.
-
Methink so.

I think it's more then ridiculous. By twelve a teen should be able to do those things all by themselves. It's not rocket sceince by any means. I think I see a spoiled brat who makes up lame excuses to not have to do things around the house. I see a lesson in house cleaning coming their way jus so they take care of themselves later on if for nothing else. After what are they going to do when they grow up? Live like pigs? Higher a maid? Hardly.
-
Indeed. I was washing my own clothes and helping with housework at 12, and I was learning to cook too. When I was in high school I cooked dinner a couple of nights a week. I am grateful I knew how to look after myself when I moved out, as you see a lot of people who seem to have no clue.
