So you already know that your flight has been overbooked? Hmm, I usually don't learn about that until I get to the gate. In my experience they usually ask for volunteers to take a later flight and give them free travel miles or tickets in exchange for switching flights. Amazingly, I've seen several people be willing to do this. So, if they ask for volunteers, just wait to see if anyone goes for it. You'll probably be ok. These sorts of things usually work themselves out. I totally know how you feel though..I've been in your shoes and I know how nervous it can make you not knowing if you're going to be stranded somewhere or have to make last minute changes.

hey Matt, you can message me sometime this weekend. you know I'm in travel. your flight is confirmed, right? and you have seat assignments? you need to make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time. an hour ahead, or, if you're like me, at least an hour and a half and get checked in early and get your boarding passes. IF the flight is so full that they'd have to bump anyone, they ask for volunteers, first. Those people will be rebooked on another flight, or given some kind of voucher. This does not happen on every single flight. YOU don't need to make any changes (I'm sure you've probably booked a restricted fare that requires paying a penalty to change). IF the airline has to bump anyone, THEY are responsible for reaccommodating the passengers.

If for somereason your flight does end up overbooked I wouldn't be too worried, considering your destination is LAX. If the ticket was purchased online, make sure you have an E-ticket number and confirmation number, and there shouldnt be any problem. Lastly, as someone else mentioned, I may be able to grant some assistance in this area as well. What airline are you flying?

While overbooking does occur, it is rarely a problem except at very busy holiday periods. I must have been on about 200 flights, and I have never been overbooked. I should put it well down your list of worries.
