In the US 16 is still considered a minor and to get prescription drugs a parent or legal guardian must be present by law.

G'day Indigo, Thank you for your question. That would depend on the law in the jurisdiction that you live in. I would call a pharmacist and ask them or your dentist. Hopefully, your mother will see sense and get them for you. Regards

Unfortunately, yes, you do. As a minor, your parents have to approve your use of prescription drug and even the most minor of surgical procedures. I am curious as to the reason your mother won't get the medication for you.

Yes, you're a minor, and you can't get it yourself. I'm very surprised you would be given a prescription for painkillers anyway. Even after the removal of 4 impacted wisdom teeth, my son was given only antibiotics and told to take Advil. Advil *should* be good enough for a root canal. Maybe that's why your Mom won't fill it. I had a root canal last year. I took one dose of Advil. Didn't need anything after that.

21 states have laws that generally permit a minor to consent to medically treatment without parental consent. The use of a prescription drug would fall under "consenting to medical treatment."

Wow I hope you're not in much pain! I don't know if root canals are still much painful or not nowadays. I'm sure the law depends on what state you live in, land state that is, not the state of curled up agony.
