  • Yes, i had the same problem until i growelled at it real loud. It worked like a charm too. You should go try it.
  • YES.. it drives me crazy and it's beyond me how the owners don't seem to notice or care.
  • Speak to the owners, see if they can take it to dog obedience school. Get to know the dog so it likes you. At least then it won't bark at you. I also recommend a book called, "The Dogman" by Martin McKenna. Good luck.
  • Yes. It is a real problem for me. I work very hard to train my dogs to bark only as a necessary alarm. They understand that incessant barking isn't allowed. I even have some of my neighbor dogs acting well mannered when they know that I am home. I don't understand why some pet owners can be so thoughtless about the behavior of their pets. I guess that they aren't bothered by the noise and assume that no one else is.
  • Yes, it drives me to anger. I have no desire to hurt animals, ..they are just being themselves. But owners should control them by giving them a house or enclosed facility where they don't make a nuisance of themselves to the entire neighborhood.
  • It is especially bad if you work nights, like I used to. There is one now, about 3 houses up the street, that when I take mine out in the backyard for her last trip at night, (usually around 10:00), it is ALWAYS barking, non-stop! I don't know how the immediate neighbors can stand it.
  • I lived in a house for 10 years where the house behind me had a dog permanently chained in the garden. This dog barked all day and all night, not loud, but a high pitched yap every now and then, like chinese water torture. I was studying from home in the evenings and this is when it used to drize me crazy, but luckliy the owner passed away of old age and the children 'dissappeared' it. I now live in a different house. Some close neigbours leave for work at 8.30 am, and from that point onwards until a crescendo at around 5.30pm, there dog barks non stop. Its loud and high pitched.I work from home, so the only answer was loud music. Now another dog has appeared on the barking scene in the last couple of days. This is obviously a large dog as this one makes a deep sorrowful moaning sound all day, which seems to carry through concrete, double glazing and in between musical notes. Where I live there is no law against a dog barking all day. You can take the owner court for noise nuisance but this is unheard of and not feasible in a small community. My opinion of dog owners is that they are completly selfish. One of our neigbours dogs bit our daughter when she called to their house to play with their daughter. We told them what happenned, and asked them to keep the dog locked in the garden. I spoke to the police but they seem of the opinion that unless the child gets severly bitten a couple of times its not worth them taking any action. The reaction of the owners has been that they don't let their daughter play with ours and for a good few weeks snubbed us. To me it seems like there is a dog epedemic. Dog excrement all over grassed areas meant for children to play on, dogs running loose, owners taking no responsibility. Well this is the Republic of Ireland for you..
  • First, find out if there is an ordinance in your community. If there isn't, you don't have much of a case, but if there is, get a copy and bring it with you when you go to talk to the owners. They may not realize there is a law. If they still refuse, start keeping a log of the times the dog barks. Start calling the cops. If the cops refuse to take action, bring up that they are nor enforcing the law. If that doesn't work, contact the animal control officer in your community, if there is one. As a lat resort, there is always court. Believe me, I feel for you. I went through this about 10 years ago with new neighbors. They had a wolfhound they left outside when they weren't home which was most daylight hours. When I confronted the owner with the ordinance, he said that the law didn't apply to him. When I suggested that he leave the dog inside when he was away, he said that it was an outdoor dog and he didn't want it inside when he wasn't there. The local cops and the animal control officer were not sympathetic to my annoyance. In fact they indicated that as far as they were concerned, a dog could bark as loud and for as long as he wanted to. I finally had to take him to court. It was a long, drawn-out case. The judge was impressed with my log of the times and the length of hours the dog was left alone unattended. My neighbor even hired an attorney to fight the ordinance and claimed he was going to the Town Board and have the ordinance overturned, but in the end, the court forced him to comply. Shortly afterward, the dog disappeared. It's been quiet ever since.
  • how about buying some of those dog chew things, theyre like leather? and just throwing them over the fence, if the owners are unapproachable
  • I once had a neighbor who's dog barked all day while he was at work. I call Animal Control and he had to keep the dog in an area of his house where he wouldn't be able to disturb the neighbors. The man said he had no idea his dog was behaving this was, liar.
  • it's actually against the law (disturbing the peace) and i have called the cops for it before and they make the owner do something about it. they never arrest or anything but if after repeated warings hey can fine them.
  • *** Oh me oh my... he barks all day and night****
  • I got my dog to stop barking. I tried this cd and I could not believe that it worked. You just pop the cd in when the dog barks and the dog stops barking. If they do it again, you play the cd again. It’s like magic. I guess it irritates the dog’s ears really badly. After I did this a few times, my dogs stopped barking. It is now very rare that they bark. You can get it at http://www.thebarkingdogcd.com if you want to check it out for yourself. I can finally get a good night sleep.
  • I used to live right next door to 4 big dogs that barked for up to 7 hrs. straight. I first asked the owners to control their dogs...to no avail. I then called the Sheriff. You have every right to peace and quiet and enjoyment of your property. I'd put a note on their door saying, "your dog barks for hours every day, etc" If that does not work, I'd check local ordinances. The bottom line is this: that barking is detrimental to your HEALTH> And...you have the rights here...not the dog. Good luck!!
