In general? (Generalities are dangerous; there is not just one "western philosophy.") Western philosophies tend to emphasize logic. They tend to pay lip service to mysticism but most don't really "get" it. There are numerous Easten philosophies - Confucianism is pretty legalistic. Buddhism (and there are many kinds of Buddhism too) DOES allow for the mystical.
No one philosophy has a corner on truth.
I don't follow philosophy of either school, as it is just the musings of humans. I believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Hard to judge. I don't find any philosophy to be truthful, personally.
I'm inclined to agree with you, but I feel as if each was interested in pursuing different things. Eastern phil. seems primarily geared towards understanding how to BE. Western seems focused on knowing what is and how we know. I think an analogue would be social science vs. hard science.
Western philosophy teaches mistrust of Eastern philosophy and teaches an ethnocentric attitude dude! Dunno really a lot's to be learned from Southern philosophy;)
Having been born and lived in Japan and currently living in America, I feel a sense of authenticity in Eastern philosophy than Western philosophy. I feel that some western beliefs can be superficial and sometimes very insignificant. Like my religious (Catholic) friend always lights a candle every time someone is in trouble but says things like, (example) "well, if he didn't drink so much, he wouldn't be in pain right now" as she lights the candle. Or she prays for things like more money or a new car...material things.
if western philosophy teaches logics then does western teaches inruitive wisdom.i mean eastern phylosophy teaches things in deeper meaning like what lies in the heart of humans and western is just logics.logics will help you in the real world such as work and eastern the spiritual.i find them both interesting maybe we neeed both though westerns economy is far more wealthy then estern countries but easterns teaches morals theyre kids grow up well manna and the devorce rates our lower therebut these are just my opinion
There are too many components of each to say that one or the other is truthful.
They are just a persons thoughts not written in stone.
I know a lot of Asian people and I'm not sure if I'm answering this correctly, but overall, their philosophy (by that I mean - some of their views) I really like. I like how they most almost never complain, have a super strong sense of family, are very generous and are very much wealthy in terms of spirit. Now this may be true of Western philosophy also, but I am drawn to Eastern views for whatever reason :)
as for which is more truthful western would be more truth for its a little more direct while easterns seems to hide the true meaning of what they are trying to say hoping that you will some how come up of your own theories and answers and the teacher will just agre for them as long as the philosophy serves a posistive a good cause then it truethful but i disagree during time of crisis we need to be more straight forward in what we are trying to express but answer to a philosophy question arent completely wrong i believe
