  • Open yer Casing and see weather CD Rom is correctly plugged in with IDE Cable and power Cable and also see the your IDE Cable is connected with the motherboard. Before doing this, Check in BIOS setting that weather the CD ROM drive is being shown there or now. you can see bios screen by pressing DEL button on the keyboard at the time when u turn your PC's power ON.
  • Right click on My Computer and choose Properties. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab. Then click the Device Manager button. In the list of devices should be a category called DVD/CD-ROM drives. Expand that category and look to see that your CD/DVD drive is listed. If it isn't this is your problem and I would follow Legend's instructions. If it is listed, make sure it's enabled (no red x). You might try updating the driver. Another thing I often do is delete the drive from the list and reboot. This can force Windows to rediscover the drive and it will work. If you can open and close the tray by pressing the eject button, you do not have a power issue.
