I think it's popular now to wear pajama bottoms in public. I've seen it for a couple of years now.

An age based fad of some sort. I remember when I was in high school alot of girls used to wear pajama bottoms to school. If nothing else I imagine it must be quite comfortable.

I think it came from high school girls just wearing them like they would sports shorts and sweats. just kinda saying, "i dont care," but still doing their hair and makeup. i personally think it looks rediculous.

Around here it's all young people, not just the girls. I think it looks just a bit toooo casual for school!

I think you have missed something, young kids here have been wearing them for awhile. I went to pick my sons girlfriend up this was a few years ago and her mom said she was taking a shower. When she came out she said okay I am ready, I said are you wearing your night clothes? her <giggle giggle, you are silly> ;)

i think it's become a trend of sorts. maybe pj bottoms are the new sweat pants! speaking of which, i used to wear pj's (top & bottoms) to junior high back in the day all the time, but that wasn't because of a trend. i just didn't give a damn what anybody thought and they were super comfortable!

I also think there are a lot of pants that look like pajama bottoms. It is sometimes difficult to tell what are pajama bottoms and what are yoga pants, or knit pants, and some summer weight draw sting pants look like pajama bottoms.

I've been seeing this since High School (a decade ago). Mostly it is girls, but I see it on guys too. I guess it's like a rebellion against style and rules about public appearance. I think it looks childish and silly, but really I don't care about it, except I could never get over the phenomenon that was widespread on my university campus: rich uptown girls coming to school in full make-up (I'm talking more than I wear on a night out), elaborately-styled hair, jewellery ... and sweat suits or PJs! It was the stupidest-looking style I've ever seen ... and so obviously phony (because if they were really rebelling, they'd go all-out)!

I used to wear them to work as a bottom for an outfit and I stopped when it caught on.

It is the result of the older women not imposing the standards on the young women. It is a result of generations of '60s influenced, free thinking, radicals. It used to be that the older ladies set the standard. Their mothers told them what was proper. No more!... Sorry.
