A bench warrant is usually issued by a judge for some in-court action or non-action. If you don't show up for court or are found in contempt of court a bench warrant is issued. Once a bench warrent is issued, you can be arrested at any point thereafter. Arrest warrants are usually issued for people who have broken criminal law. These are the warrants you see on TV crime dramas.
