Question

Help answer this question below.

For me,the weird meats that I have eaten are Ostrich, Alligator, Eel, Rabbit, Quail and Duck. How about you?

I'm not sure if this is weird but my family is avid hunters. Almost every night we eat elk, venison, buffalo and occasionally mountain lion and bear. We have a huge chest freezer stocked with all sorts of game meat. Cheaper and so much more healthier. And the way I look at it, at least they got to roam free and were never stuck in a tiny cage.

Ostrich, Kangaroo, Zebra, Wild Boar, Shark, Springbok, Crocodile, Pheasant, Deer, Cow tongue, Duck and Caterpillar.

- Some of this, some of that. A good number were at a restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland called Kubli Kahn. You can find it online if you're interested. The rest... well, they serve Ostrich locally in expensive type restaurants - and Ostrich is AMAZING. The zebra was tough and nasty. The pheasant was fresh shot that day, and cooked by a professional chef of the people I happened to be staying with (really long story). My mom got the tongue once. Duck is found regularly in Chinese places. Deer is fairly easy to come by if you know people who hunt. And the caterpillar was served to me by some Canadian missionaries to Africa while on sabbatical in Scotland in a Mexican-African meld dish. My dad said it tasted like bacon once you got past the idea. I never got past the idea.

- To be honest, I only ate it because my dad made me. I'm sure our friends would have understood, but my dad said it was good for me to learn to be polite, and to be willing to try things. As stated above, I never got past the idea, and only ate a little of the caterpillar. The rest of the food was excellent though.

- It was pretty good. A lot like venison. Not as good as the ostrich, which was by far my favorite. And I'm not sure why Springbok reminds you of Bambi more than say, deer...

- In asian countries, grilled bat is good for asthma. I know that my cousin had tons of bat and he no longer has asthma. But i would not advise to others cause I am not an expert.

Alligator, Dog, Shark, Grubs, Sea turtle, Fresh Water Mollusk, Fresh water Eel, Pigeon, Rat, Oppasum (how ever it is spelled), Cat, Bear, Snake, Rabbit, Cavier, Lizard, Snails, Raw Octapus, Termites, Cow, Ants, Goat, Spiders, Balut (duck egg ready to hatch), Day old chick on a stick, Grass hoppers, red worms. I think that is it.

  What did you think of the Balut? I've eaten one a few months ago in the Philippines. It was a young one, not ready fullgrown with feathery bits. I thought it wasn't that awful except for the crunchy eggwhite in it. Somehow I thought that was the horror part. :)

goat(smells horrible), armadillo (real chewy), cow tongue (I like), octopus (I like), frog legs (ugh),oysters (if they count as meat!I love them), pig intestines (not that bad, sometimes you get some weird tasting ones and they say its because the pig was in heat at the time he was sacrificed, whether its true or not I cant say), and pickled pork skin (yum, with lemon and salsa)...

:)..Im not a picky eater.

Dog, turtle, snails and sea-urchin are some of the stranger ones but squid, octopus, duck and quail are all commonly eaten in Italian society, and goat is common in Indonesia (both of which I move in). I am sure I ate horse in France. I have tried eel, and didn't like it.Rabbit is not strange. It was common poor food when I was a child. Now is a delicacy.
I would never eat an endangered species, but that does not include Roo and emu (neither of which I have tried, but am willing to).

- well, I only took one bite, and my cultural background set in and I couldn't go on. However, I have to admit it tasted ok. If I hadn't asked what it was beforehand, I probably would have eaten all of it.

Emu, ostrich, rabbit, squab, eel, quail, duck, goose, grouse, pheasant, wild turkey, peafowl and other pheasants, partridge, guinea hen, horse, goat, wild boar, alligator, bison or buffalo, elk, deer, snails, squid, all sorts of creepy crawly things from the ocean and fresh water, frog, etc.

- A squab is a large young pigeon. We used to raise them for food but it really wasn't economical for the amount of food you get. But they were very tasty, more what you would expect at a fancy restaurant. And a grouse is a game bird, sort of between the size of a really big quail and a small pheasant.

all of the above... plus... Lambs brains, fish head, chocolate covered ants, snake soup, turtle, turtle soup (I lived in asia for awhile, sometimes I had no choice).

- not as cute as bunnies and sheep, but for some reason the "mainstream" chickens and cows don't bother me. But.....if I lived on a farm and got to know the animals, I could never eat them. Yep, I'm a city gal.

To me in South Africa, Ostrich is not weird. Ostrich mince and sausage is widely available in our shops. Have eaten duck, guinea fowl, ostrich, warthog ,snake, rabbit and moempani worms.
