Chicago has very good public transportation. Too bad, next week. The Cubs will not be in town. That is one of my big things to do in Chicago, see a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Go to the top of the Sears Tower. Go to the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum Go visit the Navy Pier.

Also a great place t eat if u enjoy steak and seafood is Pappadeux seafood kitchen!pronounced (pappa Doe's) its amazing, u won't disagree! Look it up for directions! I believe there are two in Illinois.

You could go to Rush Street - that's a fun place to spend the night - lots of nightlife and good dining. When I was there we just took a taxi everywhere, I wouldn't recommend renting a car as there is almost no parking at all - anywhere!

OH YES CHICAGO THE CITY I LOVE! first & most important don't rent a car if you are going to be in the city most of the time, only take taxi's and the train or bus you'll get stuck in traffic, its like 25 bucks to park, and if you have never driven downtown chicago please don't you'll get in car accident LOL most of the roads are one way and pretty confusing... Second go to the field museum, just Amazing, Navy Pier is Awesome, Shedd Aquarium, very interesting AND you have to go to the Sears Tower! on a clear day you can see Indiana from up there Third places to eat ohhhhhh SO MANY!! LOL go to portillo's for the best Chicago Dogs & Italian Beefs or Gino's East best Deep Dish Pizza... oh yeah don't eat the Dogs at Navy Pier you'll be highly disappointed cuz they are very expensive & not that great.

Chicago trains are even better than Philly's subway and El. There are some cool homes and building that were designed by Frank Wright that you can tour while you are out there - check out this link here http://www.wrightplus.org/

Chicago has FANTASTIC public transportation. Although, honestly, it's easier and faster to just walk to your destinations, rather than sitting in a cab or on a bus in traffic. I believe "Wicked" is still being performed at the Oriental Theatre. And Chicago Shakespeare Theatre is worth a visit, if you can get tickets. Then there's always the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Adler Planetarium, the Art Institute, Navy Pier, Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Watertower Place, the John Hancock, the Sears Tower...And shopping GALORE. The list is just endless. Have a good time! Oh! And...do not leave Chicago without going to Cafe Iberico on North LaSalle. It's a Spanish tapas bar/restaurant with a fantastic, intimate atmosphere and *the* best tapas you can find in Chicagoland. Tapas is a dining format where you order a number of portions that you share among the people at your table. It's fun and you get to try lots of delicious dishes. Plus, sharing food makes it taste better! I'd recommend the patatas ali-oli (potatoes with white sauce), champinones a la plancha (grilled muchrooms), croquetas de pollo (ham and chicken puffs), and the queso de cabra (goat cheese). For dessert, the platano al caramelo (caramel banana) and the filloa de helado y crema (crepe with ice cream and fruit). Enjoy! http://www.cafeiberico.com/

I know this is late, but noticed no one's mentioned the Museum of Science and Industry ( http://www.msichicago.org/ ). We used to visit that when we were in scouts, and a friend and I came up one year in HS to look through it again. It's still open, isn't it?

Pizzaria Uno is a great place to eat. Art Institute of Chicago is cool....and large, so you'd have to stay all day. I wasn't too impressed with navy pier...but some love it. The Museum of Science and Industry is interesting. There is a section that shows the actual stages of embryonic development, from a few weeks to 9 months. Actual babies are in the display. It was a little strange...I felt like I needed to leave flowers or something in respect for the dead. You also need to go to Garrett's popcorn off of Michigan Ave. Chicago is a great place.

down town

If the Cubbies are in town there is nothing better than spending an afternoon at the friendly confines!
-
transportation good and fast without exspensive rental fees and the parkin-lot.

1st, I think you should rent a car (I was born & raised in Chicago, moved to the burbs when I married, you're very limited on public trans.). On the outskirts of town they have a lot of nice things also.....Brookfield Zoo (in Brookfield, just off I-55), is much better than Lincoln Park Zoo. There are a lot of fairs this time of year(check out festing.com, look up illinois for a lot of good suggestions)

The museum campus south of Grant park is a great site. You have the Adler Planeterium, Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum easily accessible by walking. The transportation system is excellent. There are many buses, trains and rapid transit that link over a hundred square miles of Chicago. You don't need a car. Visit the Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan Avenue. It is the second largest Art Museum in the United States and one of the greatest in the world. Chicago also has more live theater than New York. There are hundreds of theaters. If you picked one thing to do a day in Chicago, you couldn't see everything in a year! Finally, Chicago is a city of many neighborhoods. We also have two Zoos.

Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Alder Planeterium, Sears "Willis" Tower Skydeck, Navy Pier, there is tons of things to do/see in Chicago. Try Chicago.com As far as transportation goes, I wouldn't recommend renting a car, Public transportation is good. And overall would be a lot cheaper. Here's a sight for public transportation: http://www.transitchicago.com/ Hope this helps.
