The only reason I can think of is to avoid paying taxes on it. Other than that, why keep such great news to yourself?
-
You start getting more "good" friends then you realized you had. It just makes it so people don't view you as a person but as a source of money.
-
Because everyone feels that they're entitled to a share. A man that I worked with won a huge Powerball jackpot. As soon as he claimed the money people started sending him letters, calling his house and waiting on the curb outside asking for and/or demanding money from him for all sorts of stuff.
-
Because there is always someone there willing to take advantage of it.
-
Because you will have those family members coming out of the cracks like cockaroaches asking for moola.
-
Because people are money hungry and will start wanting to be your friend now that you are rich. 'hey Misshell, lets hang out, maybe take a trip to tropics'. If you didn't have money, I might not have said such stuff. Well, maybe.
-
if i won a bunch of money, i wouldn't want anybody to know about it. people who all of the sudden inherit money find themselves with lots of new "friends".
-
Because of all the friends you never knew you had would be there.
-
They won't know who they're friends are anymore. Money does weird things to people who aren't prepared for it.
-
If I won a lot of money, I wouldn't really want to tell anyone.. 'cause I wouldn't want to attract attention and especially thieves.
-
They dont want to share nor see a bunch of hands out of course.
-
Some people do not like to be stared at and paid a lot of attention to for something that is nothing to do with them. If you didn't like me when I was poor, I don't like you when I am rich.
-
To avoid getting begging letters and "friends" they didn't know they had. Two brothers won a huge amount on the lottery and one of them asked the other what they should do about the begging letters. The other one replied, "We'll have a month off and then get back to writing them."
-
They don't want hangers on or girls suddenly fancying them who never gave them a second look in the previous years . They also don't want their house robbed.
-
I would definitely keep it on the downlow because I want to do stuff for people privately not because they know I have money. So I would probably say I have made some real estate investments to throw them off the track.
