Not literally, no. But you have to know you have your whole life ahead of you, make the most of it! There's a whole world out there! That's what I meant.
-
No..and though I respect American idles answer..and what was said is true.."whole life ahead of you" But, the problem when young people suffering from depression is that even when told this..they can't see that its true..chemicals play a huge role in teenage depression and is the leading cause of suicides in youths. Just my opinion, I could be wrong..but I'm not..lol :)

No. My friend's 8 year old was diagnosed with depression, and even tried to commit suicide. From what I understand it's a chemical imbalance. Once she got on the right medication it made a tremendous difference.
-
No, when I was younger probably when I was 7 or 8 I was diagnosed with depression.
-
I read a newspaper article today about a 6 year old who was diagnosed as being depressed. Really sad that it can happen at such a young age.
-
Unfortunately not, there is no 'too young to be depressed'. Many times this can be caused by chemical imbalances, other times from the rootlessness of the modern day society. Most children need to know where they belong in the world and sometimes their parents are unable/unwilling to give them this security. Previously there was more family support to help create a sense of belonging to a community, a root. Now there are more people who move away from the continuity this provides. None of this has to be a bad thing, children are resiliant. I do believe with the constant state of flux many people live in it's hard enough to take care of ourselves and all the basics in life much less all the emotional needs of a child.

No, for depression can strike a person at any age.
-
No.

I agree with DreAnna...chemicals play a huge role. I have been depressed ever since I can remember. I thought for a long time that it was normal to feel like that. It wasn't until I opened up to people about how I felt that I realized that I was depressed and this way of thinking wasn't normal.
-
No, I don't think age has anything to do with depression.
-
Yes. Children and young adults go through several different stages of development, especially psychologically. Some children can be fussy, melancholic, quiet, introverted, what have you, and then later become more social and "happy." However, we also have to define what kind of depression we're talking about. I don't think that anyone under the age of 16 can truly be diagnosed with clinical depression, simply because their brain has not fully developed so we have no clue as to how the psychological development will progress in the future. However, I do feel that younger teens and some children can experience depressive states or depressive moments. After all, even adults who haven't been diagnosed with clinical depression still feel depressed sometimes.
